How to Clean a Puffco Peak (New Peak & Original)

The Puffco Peak is one of the most popular electric dab rigs we sell, and the number one thing that keeps it tasting great and working properly is regular cleaning. A dirty chamber mutes flavor, floods, and is a common cause of error lights.
The original Puffco Peak has been replaced by the Puffco New Peak, but the cleaning routine is almost identical. This guide covers both, based on Puffco’s own support instructions, and points out the few places where they differ.
What You Need
- Isopropyl alcohol, 90% or higher. Puffco recommends 99% because lower percentages contain more water.
- Cotton swabs for the chamber and the base threads.
- A small cup or container to soak the chamber, and a second one for the glass.
- Paper towel for drying.
- Optional: silicone cleaning caps to plug the glass while you shake alcohol through it, like the Red Eye Glass cleaning caps ($10.02).

Step 1: The Quick Clean After Every Session
Puffco’s own instructions end every session the same way: use a cotton swab to clean the chamber after each use, wiping gently in a circular motion. This takes seconds and stops residue from building up and hardening, which is what leads to flooding, weak flavor and error lights.
Load your concentrate on the bottom surface of the bowl, not the sides. Keeping material off the walls makes the after-session swab much easier.
Step 2: Deep Clean the Chamber or Atomizer
Stuck bowl? Puffco warns not to force an original Peak atomizer that will not come off easily. Contact Puffco support instead of risking damage to the base.
Step 3: Clean the Glass
- Carefully remove the glass from the base.
- Submerge it in 90%+ isopropyl alcohol. For heavy buildup, plug the openings with cleaning caps and shake the alcohol through.
- Rinse it clean with water. Isopropyl alcohol tastes bad, so make sure it is completely gone.
- Let the glass dry thoroughly before reattaching it. Do not let water seep into the bottom chamber of the glass.
When you refill for your next session, add water through the mouthpiece to just above the perc holes, and keep water out of the lower section.
Step 4: Clean the Base
- With the glass and chamber removed, gently clean the gold threads with cotton swabs soaked in 90%+ isopropyl alcohol.
- Clean the connection pin where the chamber attaches. A dirty pin is a common cause of connection error lights.
- Clean the air path between the chamber and the glass.
- Never let water get into the gold threads of the base, and never open or disassemble the base. Puffco says doing so voids the warranty.

Error Lights That Usually Mean “Clean Me”
New Peak: flashing red and white
This is a chamber connection error. Remove the chamber, soak it in 90%+ isopropyl alcohol for 20 minutes, clean the connection pin on the base, and let the chamber dry completely before reattaching.
New Peak: flashing white 3 times
The chamber is not attached. Remove it and reattach it. If it keeps happening, give the chamber and connection pin the same deep clean as above.
New Peak: solid red for 5 seconds
This one is not about cleaning. The device is overheating, for example after being left in a hot car or after extended use. Leave it alone and it will return to normal.
Original Peak: rainbow light
A rainbow light means a connection issue between the base and atomizer, and does not necessarily mean anything is broken. Clean the connection pins with an alcohol swab, soak the atomizer if it is flooded, let it dry, and screw it on securely. If a brand-new atomizer still shows rainbow, Puffco suggests “back threading”: turn the atomizer counterclockwise half a turn so the threads line up, then tighten it.

Mistakes to Avoid
- Using water on the chamber or atomizer. Alcohol only.
- Using low-percentage rubbing alcohol. Puffco recommends 90%+, ideally 99%.
- Reattaching parts while wet. Let everything dry thoroughly first.
- Letting water into the base threads or into the bottom chamber of the glass.
- Forcing a stuck atomizer or opening the base.
- Skipping cleaning. Puffco’s warranty notes that atomizers are replaceable parts that need regular cleaning, and lack of maintenance is not covered.
When Cleaning Is Not Enough: Replace the Chamber
Chambers and atomizers are wear parts. Puffco’s limited warranty covers the base for two years and the chamber for six months. If a well-cleaned chamber still floods, tastes burnt or throws errors, a fresh one is the easiest fix.
